His main research interest is musicking connected to identity, performance, and displacement.</span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">Steinhovden has an MA in World Music Studies from the University of Sheffield, UK, and is currently in the final stage of finishing a PhD at the University of Bergen, with the working title: ‘Music in diaspora -an ethnographic study of the roles and meanings of music among the Eritrean and Ethiopian diaspora in Bergen and its surroundings’. </span><a href="https://www.uib.no/en/rs/grieg/96897/jan-magne-steinhovden"><span lang="EN-US" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">Jan Magne Steinhovden | Grieg Research School in Interdisciplinary Music Studies | UiB</span></a></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">At NLA University college he teaches various subject both at the Kindergarten- (age 1-6) and Primary/Secondary- Teachers Training (Grade 1-7 and 5-10). He is also in charge of the international practice placement offered to KG Teacher students. </span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">His first higher education was teacher training with a major in music. Later he specialized in English and Intercultural Studies. He has teaching experience from national schools in both Norway and Ethiopia, as well as an international school in Ethiopia. He primarily taught music at various levels from primary school to upper secondary school. His special interest is "Music in Cultures". Steinhovden is also in charge of NLA's programme for KG-teachers practice abroad, in countries inclusive Madagascar, Nepal, Thailand, and Uganda. </p> <p>Steinhovden has former teaching experience from various schools in Norway in Ethiopia, from grade 2-12, especially within the field of music.
