Compulsory activities and requirements

Some courses include compulsory activities that must be completed and approved before you are eligible to sit the examination. These may include written assignments, oral presentations, practical activities, or mandatory attendance.

Information about compulsory activities is provided in the course description for each course.

Requirements, deadlines and any available resit opportunities are published in Canvas at the start of the semester.

If a compulsory activity is not approved

  • If a compulsory activity is not approved, you will normally be given one additional attempt.

  • In some courses, a further attempt may be granted in exceptional circumstances.

  • If you miss the deadline and do not have an approved extension due to illness or other compelling welfare reasons, you will not normally be given another attempt.

If a compulsory activity has not been approved by the examination withdrawal deadline, you will be notified that you are no longer eligible to sit the examination. You must then complete the activity the next time the course is offered.

Specific regulations regarding appeals relating to non-approval compulsory activities

The student can only submit an appeal upon notification of withdrawal from the exam. The deadline for appeals is three weeks from the time the decision is received, but the student can submit an appeal as soon as the notification is received. This is for the benefit of the student, so that the student can appeal and receive a response to the appeal, as far as possible, before the exam date in the course.
