New student
Checklist for starting to study
If you have applied via a local admissions scheme, you accept the offer of a place in Søknadsweb (the application web). If you have applied through the Norwegian Universities and Colleges' Admission Service you accept the offer of a place through the online application in Samordna Opptak.
All new students who accept the offer of a place at NLA University College have a user account automatically set up for them. You activate the user account yourself by following this link. NB! To activate the account, you'll need a PIN code that will be provided to you by email.
Your username and password can among other things be used for the following services: the University College's learning platform (Canvas) and wireless network (eduroam), student PCs, Inspera, Studentweb and Feide (Feidetjenester).
NB: In order to log into the wireless network, you must add @nla.no to your user name. Your user account cannot normally be used until 27 July/19 December.
In order to be registered as a student, you must have paid the semester fee to the Student Welfare Organisation (Studentsamskipnaden). Your invoice can be found on Studentweb from the end of July or early August. The invoice includes the tuition fee. If you cannot find your invoice on Studentweb, please contact post@nla.no.
In addition to paying the semester fee you have to register for the semester on Studentweb. When registering for the semester, check that your updated address(es) are registered, examine and approve your education plan and register for teaching and assessment.
For students with an education plan, this registration takes place automatically, but you still have to check that you can find your teaching and assessment notifications under My active courses (Aktive emner). If the registration is successful, the notice that you must register for the semester disappears from the front page of Studentweb. The Norwegian State Educational Loan Fund will now be notified that you are registered as a student at NLA so that any grant and loan can be paid to you, and you will be given access to the course pages on Canvas for the courses for which you are registered (both these synchronisations take place once every 24 hours).
You must personally be present at the study location at the start of the academic year. You will lose your place at NLA University College if you do not give notice of the reason for your absence.
Once you are registered for the semester, you can get a student card with your picture and a sticker on it. Your photograph can be taken at fixed times when the semester is starting. With a valid student card, you can receive a discount on such things as public transport. You can get the sticker confirming your membership of the Student Welfare Organisation from the NLA reception area once your payment of the fee to the Student Welfare Organisation has been registered.
We also offer digital student IDs. Read more here.
Logging into Canvas must take place via NLA's website. Choose Log in with Feide. You must have activated your user account (see above) in order to log in. In order to gain access to the courses on the learning platform, you must normally have registered for the semester and approved your education plan on Studentweb. You can find information on teaching, PowerPoint presentations, important messages, etc, on the course pages on the learning platform. As a student, you are obliged to check Canvas at least once a week.
Practical information on public transport, parking, opening hours, etc, at the various study locations can be found here:
