The practical training is an integrated and compulsory part of the education and constitutes an important learning arena for the development of an overall teacher competence.

How should I teach Peter to read? How can I get Mari to dare to speak up in class? How can I resolve the conflict between Anders and Ibrahim?

The primary school teacher education program is designed to qualify teachers to practice an exciting and complex profession in a society characterized by diversity and change.

Through education and practice, you will be equipped to meet the tasks, challenges, and responsibilities that the teaching profession entails. Knowledge from theory and practice are equivalent in the teacher student's professional education. Becoming a teacher is a process that takes time and continues after graduation.

Practice is a total of 115 days.

Distribution of practice:

1st year: 30 days
2nd year: 35 days
3rd year: 20 days
4th year: 25 days
5th year: 5 days of management practice

Practice must be guided, evaluated and varied.

Participation in the practical training with preparation, implementation and follow-up is compulsory. In case of absence during practice, the days must be made up.

Guidance and assessment

During each practical period, you will receive guidance and support from the practice teacher, through:

pre-guidance
ongoing assessment
mid-term conversation
final assessment

The assessment is based on the learning outcomes for the relevant academic year.

You will be assigned a professional supervisor (subject teacher) who will follow you up in guidance sessions individually and in groups. The professional supervisor also comes to practice visits.

International Internship

For primary school teacher students, the offer is linked to the practical period in the third year of study (either autumn or spring). An information meeting will be arranged early in the fourth semester of the education. The application deadline is March 15 in the second year of study. Read more about foreign practice here.

First Lego League Practice Bergen

How can we educate teachers who both master technology and are able to engage students in new ways? NLA University College offers First Lego League practice (FLL) for our 3rd year students. The practice is carried out in close collaboration with the VilVite Centre, which is the local organizer of FLL.

FLL is an international knowledge competition for children and young people.

Through FLL practice, our students gain first-hand experience with project-based learning, programming and creative problem solving. The students have practical training in schools that participate in FLL.

Leadership Practice 5th year of study

The 5th year of practice will focus on leadership tasks in the school and work that takes place outside the classroom.

The principal/department head has the main responsibility, and in dialogue with the students, agrees on what the practice days should be filled with.

In this practice period, students have great freedom to fill it with content they feel they lack or have had too little of in previous practice periods.
