Georgian Institute of Public Affairs

A semester in exotic Tbilisi, Georgia will give you memories for life! Journalism students can go on a free exchange to NLA’s Georgian partner, GIPA. They can also apply for an Erasmus+ grant.

About the exchange location

The Georgian Institute of Public Affairs (GIPA) is a private institution located in the capital city of Georgia, Tbilisi. It has four faculties, and NLA’s main collaboration partner is the Caucasus School of Journalism and Media Management.

Tbilisi is a beautiful city with just over 1 million inhabitants. The city is a mix of old and new, an exotic but safe destination, with a very welcoming population.

The academic year

The autumn semester is from mid-September to mid-January. Mentor week for international students is typically the first week of September.

The spring semester is from mid-January to the end of June. Mentor week for international students is typically the second week of January.

ECTS credits and courses

The study credits system corresponds to the Norwegian system, and to receive approval for a full semester at NLA you must complete 30 ECTS credits.

The exchange agreement with GIPA is open to NLA’s journalism students. GIPA offers instruction primarily in English at master’s level. Bachelor journalism students can apply for an exchange to GIPA if they are capable of following instruction at master’s level. The courses offered are primarily related to journalism. Admission criteria/language test

Applicants are not required to sit a language test. The number of places may be limited.

As an Erasmus+ student, you will take an online language test, but this is only for your own information. Your test result will not be communicated further. You will also receive an offer for an online language course through the Erasmus+ programme.

Tuition fees and finances

NLA has an Erasmus+ agreement with GIPA, which means that you do not need to pay tuition fees. You could receive an Erasmus+ grant of up to EUR 700 per month + financial support for travel, but this is subject to fund availability.
