Bergen - two campuses

In Bergen, NLA University College has two campuses: Sandviken and Kalfaret. Both campuses are centrally situated, providing convenient access to both the city centre and the surrounding mountains.

NLA University College in Bergen has the largest number of students and study programs, with its two campuses located in Sandviken and Kalfaret.

Campus Sandviken

The Campus in Sandviken is conveniently situated in Sandviken, in the foothill of Sandviksfjellet (Mount Sandviken), a ten minutes’ bus ride north of the city centre. The campus is small, consisting of one building containing classrooms, administration offices, study room, chapel, library and a cafeteria.

NLA Sandviken offers study programs in Intercultural Studies, Education and Theology, Religion and Philosophy

Campus Kalfaret

Campus Kalfaret is located close to the city centre. From January 2024, NLA relocated its second campus in Bergen from Breistein to Kalfaret. Campus Kalfaret is located in beautiful, protected premises. The campus is spacious and contains classrooms, cafeteria, library, labs, study room, administration offices, outdoor area ect. 

NLA Kalfaret offers study programs in Teacher Education, Early Childhood Teacher Education and Business Administration.

  • To Campus Sandviken (Amalie skrams vei 3): Use the bus stops Amalie Skrams vei or Sandvikstorget to get to Campus. Bus number 18 stops right outside the entrance. Bus number 3, 4, 5 also stops near campus at Sandvikstorget. 
  • To Campus Kalfaret (Kalfarveien 31): Approximately 15 minutes walking distance from city centre. The bus stop Stadsporten is 5 minutes walking distance to campus. Bus number 5, 6, 16E will take you to Stadsporten.

The city of Bergen 

Bergen is the second largest city in Norway with a population of approx. 290.000, famous for its excellent harbour and access to the scenic fjord country. From the 13th Century, Bergen was the capital of Norway and until 1830s, it was Norway’s largest city. Bergen is rich in  historical sites and interesting sights and draws a large number of visitors every year. Bergen is surrounded by seven mountains and is often called the ‘City of Seven Mountains’. Bergen offers many opportunities for outdoor activities and recreation.

Sammen is the Student Welfare Organization in Western Norway, offering services for all students in Bergen. Sammen provides activities and services tailored to students’ day-to-day lives. Student housing, food services, fitness facilities, health services are supplied to ensure students the best possible student experience in Bergen. International students are normally guaranteed housing through Sammen.
