Introduction

Every manager must first of all understand his tasks, functions, and tools that he/she can use to manage people and processes in the organization. This requires knowledge of the organization and management theory, which he/she could apply in practice.

Students

  • have knowledge of key organizational and management theories and historical development.
  • have knowledge of organizations and their environment, stakeholders, and external factors.
  • have knowledge of the forms of collaboration in organizations, mergers and acquisitions.
  • have knowledge of the basics of individual and teams in organizations, motivation theory, and attitude.
  • have knowledge of key ethical challenges in management and organization and how to develop sustainable management, incl. knowledge of Hauge's management thinking and practice.
  • have knowledge of the role and functions of manager in connection with the theory of leadership in organizations
  • have knowledge of the decision-making and business processes in organizations.
  • have knowledge of the organizational culture, organizational structure and design.
  • know what organizational development is and how to assess the effectiveness and success of organizations.

Teaching and learning methods

Lectures, presentations, seminars, group work, dialogue in plenary and self-study. The teaching will be based on key challenges/problems in the subject area (problem-based teaching) and cases. The language of instruction is Ukrainian.

Scope

280 hours.

Coursework requirements

The following coursework requirements must be approved before the students can present themselves for the final assessment:

  • Making an individual 15 minute oral presentation on one of the theoretical points of the course
  • Preparing a written case of 5-10 pages on one of the practical points of the course

Oral examination 30 minutes, 48 hours preparation time.

The oral exam is assessed with graded scores A to E for pass and F for fail.
