The following work requirements must be approved within the given deadlines to take the exam in the course:
- An individual 15-minute oral presentation on one of the theoretical topics in the course
- A written assignment of 2000 words (+/- 10%) on one of the practical topics in the course
- 1 conversation in reflection groups (2 hours) with a subsequent individual reflection note. 200-220 words
- Minimum 75% attendance in mandatory classes
If the written work requirements are not approved, one more attempt is given in the same semester.
280 hours
Lectures, presentations, seminars, group work, dialogue in plenary and self-study. The teaching will be based on key challenges/problems in the subject area (problem-based teaching) and cases.
Oral individual digital exam 20 minutes, 48 hours preparation time.
The course is evaluated according to the quality system for NLA University College.

Every modern manager must understand the essence of business, be able to choose appropriate business models, evaluate and analyse business efficiency and performance, and realize how innovations are developed and implemented. This requires relevant business and economic knowledge that s/he could apply in practice. Therefore, the course "Business, efficiency, performance and innovation" is introduced in the first year of study (second semester) at the Master's program in innovation and management.
Upon completion of the course, the student has achieved the following learning outcomes:
Knowledge
The student
- has knowledge of theories of business efficiency and performance measurement, as well as innovation and the historical development of these topics
- has in-depth knowledge of business efficiency and methods for performance measurement as well as the relationship between efficiency and innovation
- has in-depth knowledge of theories and methods for developing and implementing innovation
- has advanced knowledge of theories for organizing processes for performance management
- has knowledge of ethical challenges and how they are handled in connection with the work of innovation efficiency
Skills
The student
- can analyze and critically approach different sources of information (data, literature) and use them to structure and formulate scientific arguments
- can choose appropriate methods and tools to measure the efficiency and performance of enterprises
- can analyze the efficiency and performance of enterprises using traditional and advanced methods with the aim of improving the management of the organization
- can use relevant methods for research and innovation work in an independent manner
- can carry out R&D projects regarding the measurement and analysis of the efficiency and performance of enterprises, and development projects under supervision and in accordance with good ethics
