Empathic Leadership as a Pedagogical Tool in Higer Education
The key purpose of higher education is “long-term orientations on societal aims and needs, including respect for cultures and environmental protection” (UNESCO, 1998/2005, p. 5). This includes the development of essential skills, such as emotional intelligence, collaboration, relationship-building abilities, and flexibility. In this context, the lecturer plays a crucial leadership role. As a pedagogical leader, the lecturer is responsible for creating a safe meaningful learning environment, and students’ active engagement. Empathy is one of the pedagogical tools that support students in the learning process, help manage conflicts, and contribute to the formation of both students and lecturers.
Drawing on personal experience, the project aims to explore the role of empathic leadership in teaching practice. The research question: How can empathic leadership be used as a pedagogical tool in higher education?
