Season jump performance and wellness variables in Turkish national youth wrestlers
(Publisert i Human Movement, 07.07.2022)
This research involved some Turkish elite young male freestyle wrestlers, who were assessed for jump performance (a proxy for explosive effort performance) and wellness variables over one whole competition season. The wrestlers did not show any significant change of jump performance indicating absence of long-term fatigue. The only single wellness variable showing a significant relationship with jump performance throughout the season, the weekly Hooper index, was actually a parameter taking into account different sub-variables and namely perceived feeling of stress, fatigue, delayed onset muscle soreness and sleep quality. Therefore, findings from this research suggest wrestling professionals to focus on a sum of wellness indicators – instead of only one – to track possible over-season changes of explosive effort capability.
