Three tenets forcing improvisation for mathematical exploration and co-creation
Jørgen Sjaastad
(Publisert i For the Learning of Mathematics, vol. 44 nr. 3, 2024)
Drawing on theory of jazz improvisation, Sjaastad explores how important principles for mathematics teaching like exploration and co-creation may be pursued in mathematics classrooms. Improvisation is inevitable. Sjaastad describes an experiment where he used improvisation as the dominant teaching approach for an entire semester, and he shares experiences of how he had to prepare and what the students gained from the experiment.
