Before your Exam

Exam date

Eligibility to Sit an Exam

You must register within the deadline to be eligible to sit an exam.

For many courses, approved compulsory coursework or acivities are also required in order to take the exam.

If compulsory requirements are not approved by the specified deadline, you may lose your right to sit the exam. Notification of withdrawal from the exam is normally sent 14 days before the exam, and for some courses 7 days before the exam.

Reassessment and supplementary assessment

If you have failed an exam or would like to improve your grade, you may be able to take the assessment again. This is often referred to as a reassessment, or supplementary assessment.

Appeal of Formal Errors

Errors in exam execution or assessment may provide grounds for an appeal of formal errors if the error could have affected either the your performance or the assessment of your work.

Examples of formal errors:

You received incorrect exam paper.
You were given insufficient time for preparation or the examination.
An examiner was not impartial.

The deadline for appealing a formal error is three weeks from the date you became, or should have become aware of the matter being appealed.

How appeals are processed

NLA University College will first assesses whether a formal error has occured and wether it may have affected the examination result.

If such an error is identified, the examination result will be annulled, and the error will be corrected.

This may involve:

a new assessment may correct the error, or
retaking the examination.

If your appeal is not upheld by the university college, it will automatically be forwarded to the Student Affairs Appeals Committee for final consideration.

If the committee concludes that a formal error has occured, the examination result will be annulled and the error corrected as described above.

Your diploma and transcript of records are available in the Diploma Registry (Vitnemålsportalen) and Studentweb.

Application for external examination

You can apply to take the exam elsewhere. The exam must be completed at the same time as at NLA University College, and you must cover the costs yourself.

The application must include information about the examination location and an external contact person. The application must be justified and, if possible, documented. The deadline to apply is February 15 for the spring semester and September 15 for the fall semester.
