Examination dates

Right to sit for an examination

If you do not wish to sit the examination

If you do not wish to sit the examination, you must withdraw before the withdrawal deadline. The withdrawal deadline is 14 days before the examination date for courses that run for a full semester. For courses that run for less than one semester, the withdrawal deadline is seven days before the examination date.

If you wish to take the examination at a later date, you may be able to register for a deferred or resit examination, where available

Resit assessments

If you have failed an exam or would like to improve your grade, you may be able to take the assessment again. This is often referred to as a resit exams.

After Your Exam

Conduct of grading

The grade in the examination result shall be pass or fail, or on a grading scale from A to E representing a passing grade and F representing a failing grade. Assessment guidelines are available to students after the grade has been determined.

The grading deadline is 15 working days after the examination date. For master's thesis, the grading deadline is eight weeks.

Right explanation of grade

For written examinations, the deadline for requesting an explanation of your grade is within one week of the grade being published.

For assessments of practical skills, an explanation must be requested immediately after the grade has been communicated.

The explanation will be made available in Studentweb within two weeks.

Appeal on the grounds of formal errors in examinations

Errors in exam execution or assessment may provide grounds for an appeal of formal errors if the error could have affected either the your performance or the assessment of your work.

Examples of formal errors:

You received incorrect exam paper.
You were given insufficient time for preparation or the examination.
An examiner was not impartial.

The deadline for appeals on the grounds of formal errors is three weeks from the date you became, or should have become aware of the matter being appealed.

How appeals are processed

NLA University College will first assesses whether a formal error has occured and wether it may have affected the examination result.

If such an error is identified, the examination result will be annulled, and the error will be corrected.

This may involve:

a new assessment may correct the error, or
resit the examination.

If your appeal is not upheld by the university college, it will automatically be forwarded to NLAs appeals committee for academic affairs and appeals for final consideration.

If the committee concludes that a formal error has occured, the examination result will be annulled and the error corrected as described above.

Diploma and other documentation of results

Your diploma and transcript of records are available in the Diploma Registry (Vitnemålsportalen) and Studentweb.

Examinations at another campus or Institution

You can apply to sit an exam elsewhere. The exam must be completed at the same time as at NLA University College, and you must cover the costs yourself.

The application must include information about the examination location and an external contact person. The application must be justified and, if possible, documented. The deadline to apply is February 15 for the spring semester and September 15 for the fall semester.
